My husband and I had planned on being in Russia for three weeks on an invitational plein air painting trip with the Publisher of Plein Air Magazine, Eric Rhoads. Due to the state of affairs and Covid, we canceled. However, since wanting to get some plein air painting in, we decided to go to Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and to the New York Adirondacks for Fall Color.

This was painted in my very first plein air competition. The competition was in Tupper Lake, NY. A very small town with a very big heart. They had some super good artists in the competition.

During my research of the area, this place came up. With it’s retro sigh that is a true neon, it was the winner for my choice for a nocturne painting. While painting it that night, I drew a crowd and the owners. We had such a fun night of visiting and them watching me get my color notes in. I had hoped to finish it by the time we had judging but wasn’t able to get it to where I wanted it. But it will be finished before Oct. 1 which is when the owners close for the season. They were so kind, they even came to the artist reception.
