As a celebration of a great woman artist, I decided to paint Frida Kahlo like a De las Muertas Catrina painting a portrait of Frida with one of her beloved monkeys. Frida painted a similar piece when she was a young woman. I've been unable to find the name of the portrait but she was photographed painting while painting it. The photo was dated 1931 on the internet. I used this painting as a model/example study for this painting.
On a side note, at the end of October, 2019, I will journey to San Miguel de Allende for the Day of the Dead Celebration (Spanish: Día de Muertos). It will be exciting to see first hand how the Mexicans celebrate this special occasion.
