In preparation for a "live event" for the Oil Painters of America (OPA)I setup this still life. "Before I Sleep" is about looking back on our day or our life in hopes that we do good. Life is not "still"; life is fast! We must cherish every moment of it. So before I sleep, I like to give thanks.
The book is an antique "Holy Bible" from the early 1900's, with "Heaven's Door" in the sniffer, my journal and very special "watch" dog (the clock). The leather journal is handmade, including the paper inside it, and was purchased while I toured Italy. The sniffer was purchased during my trip to Ireland from the original Waterford factory where they still hand-blow their crystal. "Heaven's Door", is a hand-crafted whiskey made with the help of legendary artist Bob Dylan. And, of course, the painting is hand-painted in oil. I use the same oils (brands and colors) that Monet and Renoir did because I like tradition.
