Vincent Van Gogh was a troubled young man who painted a lot in his short artistic life. Claude Monet, an artist that loved painting outdoors, as well, had a very long artistic life. I’ve wondered many times over, if Vincent had lived as long as Monet, if he would have been recognized during his life as the artist he wanted to be known for. I think one of the things that troubled him so much is that he was not recognized for his creativity. He lived a very poor life.
Artists are sensitive to critics. Sometimes it’s hard to push forward but we know we must because we really don’t know better. My art, like those of the impressionists before me, is different. It’s a quirky story mixing history with a bit of humor…but I love the outdoors and painting it, just like my friends, Vincent & Claude. So painting this mix of them both was fun and magical.
