My husband and I had planned on being in Russia for three weeks on an invitational plein air painting trip with the Publisher of Plein Air Magazine, Eric Rhoads. Due to the state of affairs and Covid, we canceled. However, since wanting to get some plein air painting in, we decided to go to Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and to the New York Adirondacks for Fall Color.
This was painted in my very first plein air competition. The competition was in Tupper Lake, NY. A very small town with a very big heart. They had some super good artists in the competition.
It was a beautiful clear day but the sun was directly overhead and so the lighting wasn’t good, I came back the next day and it started raining, so I was not able to finish this piece for the show. However, I stayed in the Adirondacks for another 10 days and was able to go back and finish. I love this area…there are actually two falls but I chose the one on the left as you are facing them.
