Summer Can’t Last Forever

Wow…Summer is almost over. School has started and I can actually feel and see Fall approaching. This last week of rain and thunderstorms helped remind me of the changing seasons. Sunsets and seasons are the cycles of the earth and the cycles of life. Change, too, is a cycle of life — out with the old, in with the new. Change causes personal growth and creates a new cycle, and even failure brings growth.

Many don’t see me work thru my failure of a composition. Believe me when I say that not all my paintings are masterpieces…LOL! No really, there are times when I just want to slash my canvas because I am not able to convey the story I see in my mind. It’s not the painting that I’m mad at but myself. I find that I paint my best when I am happy. I think it has to do with my personal admiration of paintings that bring forth happiness in our world of worry, haste, technology and wasted time. Painting, you see is not my therapy. I hear those words a lot. This is my job and I love my job. What is important for me is to not give up! I like challenges, I like turning the canvas around that is causing issues. I want to learn from my failed attempt.

As I paint, my family comes into the studio from time to time to see how it’s going. They are amazed, at times, when one day they see mountains with rolling hills, the next day a lake in its place, the sky changed, as well as, color schemes. I just laugh and they shake their heads in amazement of how these changes happen.

Most of my compositions are brought forth as I paint. Not everything is pre-planned or drawn. I know many artist do renderings and I admire them for that. But Capturing the Imagination is truly what I paint and convey in my art. The imagination is a hard thing to pre-plan. I am a dreamer with open eyes; a mere visitor in this beautiful world. “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us. And the world will live as one.” ― John Lennon

Milessa Murphy Stewart

The best paintings create a story. My stories have happy endings.

Milessa was born a big city girl in a dry, desolate area of Texas where the only trees she saw were mesquite and the only things to climb was her horse. She remembers a lot of brown but that did not stop her from dreaming in beautiful, bold color. She paints in a playful and visual style.
