St Catherine of Siena by Milessa with Father Fabian

St. Catherine in her new home!

St. Catherine of Siena has a new home. She now resides at the Mount Carmel Hermitage. Father Fabian is in charge of this hermitage and will be celebrating 25 years there soon…he is an inspiration!

Thirteen (13) years ago, I was commissioned to paint the icons for their alter and they were dedicated on “Father’s Day” that year by the Bishop. It was a spectacular day. A picture of the icons at the alter is below. I was also asked to talk to the congregation about the icons (very special because “women” are not allowed in a hermitage proper…nor be at the alter!)

Anyone that meets Father Fabian will love this humble man and his understanding of life! He has built a wonderful hermitage strictly with monies the monks make from their small gift store and donations. Father Fabian is a very hard worker and I am happy to call him my friend…I respect him highly!

Milessa Murphy Stewart

The best paintings create a story. My stories have happy endings.

Milessa was born a big city girl in a dry, desolate area of Texas where the only trees she saw were mesquite and the only things to climb was her horse. She remembers a lot of brown but that did not stop her from dreaming in beautiful, bold color. She paints in a playful and visual style.
