Is Art Playing or WORK?

Let me start out by saying, it’s my “passion”.  I would rather paint, than eat, sleep or watch television.  My connection to my artwork is emotional.  I work hard to make it work for me…but it’s fun.  I wake up in the morning and can’t wait to get to my studio and before I know it, the day is almost gone and it’s time for rest…did I eat???  did I feed the dog???  Oh…goodness, my husband is home and I need to get dinner on the table…then back to the studio.  The days are long but they go by fast!   There doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day to get all the painting done I feel is in me!  Yes, it is work…that’s why they call it ARTWORK but it is fun, so that could be like playing!  However, I am the temperamental artsy-fartsy-girl that will get her feathers ruffled if you think this is NOT a serious career!  Artists may be starving but it’s because they “forgot” to eat!  Their passion for art keeps them fulfilled and hopefully those around them get it.  I am fortunate that my husband is one of my biggest supporters and understands this driving desire!  And speaking of driving, I will be heading to West Texas for the Stribling Art Extravaganza this next week…hope to see you there.
